Three Free Events Fill Fort Lauderdale the First Weekend of October
This weekend brings the first-ever Las Olas Autumn Festival at First Presbyterian on East Las Olas Saturday morning, Sunday Jazz Brunch on three stages at Esplanade Park, and Arts Launch Broward filling the Broward Center on Sunday. All three are free.
Saturday: The First Las Olas Autumn Festival
Saturday, October 3, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. First Presbyterian Church parking lot, 1224 East Las Olas Boulevard. Free.
The Las Olas Association is running this one with Flamingo Flea, and it is the first year. Four hours only. It ends at 2 p.m., so this is a lunch plan, not a dinner plan.
What is on site:
- The Flamingo Flea marketplace, local makers and small businesses
- Live music on the Good Night John Boy Haystack Stage
- A kids' corner presented by Joe DiMaggio Children's Health
- Photo setups from Artisano Studios
- Food and beverage vendors
One logistical note. The festival occupies the church parking lot. Arrive expecting to park somewhere else on the boulevard.
Sunday: Three Jazz Stages at Esplanade Park
Sunday, October 4, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Esplanade Park, 400 SW 2nd Street. Free.
Sunday Jazz Brunch is the oldest habit on this list. It runs the first Sunday of every month, and October 4 is the first Sunday. Three stages run at the same time, all local jazz artists.
Bring a chair, a blanket, a picnic basket. Leashed pets are welcome. Local merchants set up along the walkway and nearby restaurants sell food on site, so you can also arrive with nothing and eat there.
The next two dates are November 1 and December 6.
Sunday: Arts Launch Broward Takes Over the Broward Center
Sunday, October 4, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Broward Center for the Performing Arts, 201 SW 5th Avenue. Free.
Broward County's Cultural Division opens the arts season with this, and it pulls the county's artists and cultural organizations into one building for three hours. Performances run throughout.
Now read the two Sunday entries again. Same day, same three-hour window, and both sit on the Riverwalk in the Arts and Entertainment District. Esplanade Park is an easy walk from the Broward Center. You are not choosing between them. You are walking between them.

What a Weekend Like This Tells You About the Urban Core
Three events. Zero admission. Two of them within walking distance of each other and of several hundred homes along the New River.
That is the part buyers underestimate. People shopping downtown and on Las Olas ask about square footage and water access first, and those matter. The walk radius matters too, and it is harder to see on a floor plan. Hearing three jazz stages and then crossing into a countywide arts festival without moving your car is a specific thing, not a vague amenity. Arts Launch is annual. The jazz half of it comes back twelve times a year.
Lourdes Maestres has spent 17 years in this market. She knows which blocks put you inside that radius, which ones put you fifteen minutes outside it, and what the difference costs.
If you are weighing a move to downtown Fort Lauderdale, Las Olas, or the streets along the New River, Lourdes and the MPH Team can walk you through what daily life actually looks like at a given address. Reach out when you are ready.
