Your Fort Lauderdale Weekend: A Las Olas Fiesta, Restaurant Month, and The Strokes
This weekend brings a Mexican Independence Day celebration at The Wharf on Las Olas, the closing stretch of Dine Out Lauderdale across the whole county, and The Strokes at Hard Rock Live on Sunday night. Here is what is worth Friday through Sunday, and where each one sits.
Mexican Independence Day at The Wharf
Saturday, September 12, from noon until 3 a.m. The Wharf Fort Lauderdale, 20 West Las Olas Boulevard
The Wharf turns over its whole riverfront lot for this one. Doors open at noon on Saturday and the party runs straight through to 3 a.m. Sunday, which makes it the longest single event on the calendar this weekend.
The location is the real argument for going. The Wharf sits at the west end of Las Olas where the boulevard meets the New River, a two-minute walk from the Riverwalk and inside easy reach of the downtown garages. Park once and you can do the fiesta, a walk along the water, and dinner on Las Olas without moving the car.
Go before 4 p.m. if you want a table with a water view. After that it fills.
Dine Out Lauderdale Is Down to Its Last Three Weekends
Friday through Sunday, and every day through September 30. Participating restaurants across Greater Fort Lauderdale
Restaurant month runs August 1 through September 30, so this is one of three weekends left. Participating kitchens are serving three-course prix fixe menus at four set price points:
- $35 for lunch
- $45 for dinner
- $60 for dinner at the higher tier
- $75 for the Lux experiences
The Lux tier is where this gets interesting. It is the cheapest way into the rooms most people only book for anniversaries, and the waterfront restaurants participate heavily. If there is a place on Las Olas or along the Intracoastal you have been meaning to try, this is the weekend.
We keep a running guide to the participating restaurants and what is actually worth ordering. It is on the site under Dine Out Lauderdale 2026.
Two Closing Exhibitions at NSU Art Museum
Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, noon to 5 p.m. NSU Art Museum, One East Las Olas Boulevard
Two shows come down on October 4, which puts them in their final month. "Close to Home" and "Frantz Zéphirin: The Messenger" have both been up since June, and this is the point in a run where the galleries are quiet enough to actually look at something.
Also on view, and staying up through spring 2027, is the Christo and Jeanne-Claude Surrounded Islands documentation exhibition. If you have lived in South Florida for any length of time and have only ever seen the pink fabric in photographs, the documentation is worth the trip on its own.
Children 17 and under are always free.
Inter Miami CF II Hosts Huntsville City FC
Sunday, September 13, evening kickoff. Chase Stadium, 1350 Northwest 55th Street
Chase Stadium remains one of the better underrated Sunday plans in the city. The second team plays in front of a fraction of the crowd the first team draws, tickets stay reasonable, and you are out of the parking lot before 9 p.m. Huntsville has taken the first two meetings this season, so Miami has something to settle.
Confirm the kickoff time on your ticket before you leave. Listings for this one have shown both 6 p.m. and 7 p.m.
The Strokes at Hard Rock Live
Sunday, September 13, 7 p.m. Hard Rock Live at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Hollywood
The Reality Awaits North America tour stops in Hollywood on Sunday night. Hard Rock Live is roughly 25 minutes south of downtown Fort Lauderdale on a Sunday, less if you take the turnpike.
This is the weekend's one hard conflict. The Strokes and the Chase Stadium match are both Sunday evening. Pick one.
Reading a City by How It Spends a Weekend
A weekend like this one tells you more about Fort Lauderdale than a spec sheet will. Las Olas on a Saturday afternoon and Las Olas on a Sunday morning are two different streets. Downtown fills and empties on a rhythm that only shows up if you are standing in it. The drive from Victoria Park to Hollywood at 6 p.m. on a Sunday is a real number, and it is not the one the map app quotes on a Tuesday.
This is the part of buying that does not appear in a market analysis. Lourdes Maestres has spent 17 years selling luxury homes in Fort Lauderdale, and the reason clients keep coming back is that she knows how these neighborhoods actually live, not just how they price. Which blocks are quiet on a Saturday night. Which waterfront pockets are a fifteen-minute walk from dinner and which ones are a fifteen-minute drive. Where the bridge openings will cost you twenty minutes at the wrong hour.
If you are weighing Fort Lauderdale neighborhoods right now, spend a weekend inside them before you spend anything else. Then talk to someone who has watched them change for seventeen years.
Reach out to Lourdes and the MPH Team when you are ready to see what that looks like in a home.
